👀 Tool Deep Dive
Meet The Powerful New AI Image Generator, Flux
Flux generated this incredibly lifelike image of a woman speaking at a conference.
Developed by Black Forest Labs (whose team is composed of former Stability members… i.e., the creators of Stable Diffusion), Flux is capturing attention for its highly realistic and detailed images.
Flux offers three versions: Pro for commercial use, Dev for creating custom apps, and Schnell, which generates images 10x faster than Pro with less computational requirements.
Flux’s Key Features
Highly photorealistic: Flux generates hyper-realistic images (particularly human figures & complex scenes) by employing advanced techniques like rotary positional embedding
Accessibility: Flux Dev & Schnell can run locally on a high-performance laptop — eliminating the need for expensive hardware or cloud storage
Open-Source: Integrates into a wide range of applications
How Flux Compares
Midjourney outshines Flux in artistic flair and slightly surpasses Flux in realism. But Flux excels at image structure & rendering consistent text.
DALL-E 3 takes the win in terms of creativity, but Flux offers more customization options, handles complex prompts better, and renders text within images more accurately than DALL-E.
Plus, unlike the free-to-use Flux, Midjourney and DALL-E both have a cost for entry. Flux can also be run locally on your computer, and is open source — a significant benefit over the public API-lacking Midjourney & DALL-E, which you can only use via API or online platforms like ChatGPT.
How To Access Flux
Locally on Your Computer: Install Pinokio > Go to the ‘Explore’ tab > find Flux Web UI > Click ‘Download’ (Check that you have enough VRAM: ~12GB)
Other Apps: Try it via NightCafe, Based Labs, Fal, or Poe: Pro & Schnell
Hugging Face: Use Flux Dev & Flux Schnell… no sign up needed
